About

I am an Illustrator and book artist working in Edinburgh.

I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with an Undergraduate degree and also a Master of Fine Art. I now work across the fields of craft, design and art. My inspirations are travel, literature, archives and collections. Recently gardening and food pop up often too! Observational drawing is particularly important. I use drawing and printmaking to make sculptural books that play with the way we tell stories and also question the idea of what a book can be.

Clients

I have enjoyed working with a wide range of clients in a number of different guises including: National Museum of Scotland, National Library of Scotland, Scottish Book Trust, University of St Andrews, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Wigtown Book Festival, Borders Book Festival, Duke of Buccleuch, Edinburgh Airport and Craft Scotland.

Awards

A few of the awards that have helped me get started in my creative career include a Craft Maker Award from Edinburgh City Council and a Postgraduate Award from the AHRC. I was also shortlisted for the Deutsche Bank Design Award for Business Planning and the Penguin Design Awards.

Residencies

Residencies and collaborations have formed an influential part of my practice. Working with the archive and museum at the John Gray Centre in Haddington in 2012 was a significant project that informed two artist’s books and a series of illustrations.

Increasingly Education is a key part of my practice. I teach Undergraduate Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art and have collaborated with a number of libraries, museums and archives, including both the National Museum of Scotland and the National Library of Scotland. I design workshops and materials that allow users to explore the artefacts and engage with the collection through making. This is an area I am particularly interested in developing further. See the Workshops page for more info.
